Vega is always integrating new green initiatives into the operation of our business. We pursue a waste management program that ensures a reduction in waste produced - this is achieved by increasing the volume of our recycled matter which ultimately means less waste going to landfill. We also recommend the use of paper products that contain recycled materials and paper produced from sustainable forests. Some of our other green initiatives include:

Reduction in energy usage and carbon emissions

• Installation of Light Eco systems (an energy efficient lighting system) that reduces greenhouse gas emissions and fluorescent lighting costs
• A special SkyCool Roof Coating that eliminates solar heat before it enters the building thus reducing the need for cooling
• Implementation of Power Factor Correction - a method that reduces power usage and emissions of greenhouse gases by increasing energy efficiency
• A tree planting program to help offset carbon emissions
• Sufficient carbon offsets have been purchased to ensure all the operational greenhouse gas emissions produced from running the business have been calculated and offset. The Carbon Reduction Institute (CRI) has also assisted Vega in implementing an online calculator so that Vega customers can calculate the carbon footprint of their jobs and for a small additional charge, make their jobs carbon neutral.

Green presses

• We use soy based inks and our printing process is alcohol free
• We have presses that use water based aqueous coating – an environmentally friendly alternative to UV coatings
• Our state of the art equipment results in more efficient printing

Water saving

• We have a water saving program that recycles water used in the printing process

Recycling

• We recycle paper, cardboard, plastic, film, wooden pallets, printing blankets, ink canisters, printing plates and office toner cartridges

Digital Processing

• Our pre-press department uses Computer to Plate technology which has eliminated the need for film and reduces chemical processing
• Soft proofing via our FTP file transfer service means we use less paper for hard copy proofing

• Our green status is recognised by ISO 14001:2004 (EMS) certification and Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) Chain of Custody certification
